Spring Update '10 Welcome back - By now you all have received your membership mailing - and the invitation to Welcome Back to Paradise - June 7th, at Boone’s. We are grateful to Nick, who really makes this party work - always providing a super hors d’oeuvre table (much more than we pay for)! The staff at Boone’s makes the whole thing go smoothly even when Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate. So far the weather has been terrific - let’s hope it holds!
In November, Pug proposed that the LLA Board Adopt a Road - specifically North Long Lake Road. On April 26th, we cleaned from Lake Ann Road to Church Road (except for the stone wall side). Have you noticed the signs? I have driven right by them :( without even seeing them. It was interesting to me to “analyze” the trash - more cigarette butts than you would ever care to count (yuk), and lots of bottles, cans, and other stuff dumped near Gilbert Park and the parking lots. There are two more clean-up dates this summer. As usual, Dennis and Ron have worked hard over the winter - they research and network and keep up to date on the conditions of the lakes and potential threats. This year, they tracked down concerns pointed out by a vigilant former LLA president who keeps a very close watch for any natural or man-made changes on our lakes. Dennis also located an excellent map of the LL Watershed. New on the Lake If you were at the Annual meeting, you heard about Long Lake Foundation’s plan to purchase a fireboat and equipment for the lake. They have done so, and the Long Lake Township Fire Battalion has outfitted the boat and trained for fire and rescue. The pictures show the boat in the Rural Fire Department facility. You can look for it on the lake. Jo located a boat hoist, and Brad graciously offered to provide a “home port”. If you spot a fire on a Long Lake island, in addition to 911, please immediately call one of the following: Brad 946-8331 (Home) 631-4646 (Cell) Dan 929-3237 (Home) 275-3678 (Cell) John 943-8239 (Home) Yes, this information was in the membership mailing/newsletter, but is important enough to repeat. Also, take special note of Gerry’s water safety article in the spring mailing. Pass the information along to guests and renters! |
