"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens
can change the world; it's the only thing that ever has."
– Margaret Mead, Humanitarian
The Long Lake Association
Although its origin can be traced to 1921, it wasn't until 1958 that the Long Lake Association was formed as a nonprofit organization by citizens concerned with the quality and preservation of one of Northwest Michigan's premier inland lakes.
Now ranked as one of the oldest and most effective riparian groups in the state, the Association has retained its status as a nonprofit to this day and is funded solely by annual membership dues and contributions. The Association's board of directors is comprised of eleven member volunteers and its past president; terms expire on a regular and annual rotation. Membership in the Association is voluntary.
Ongoing board projects include funding for marine patrol, weed and lake management, community affairs, membership and water safety, fishing quality, long range planning, communications and finance. The Association also works closely with Long Lake Township officials and the Long Lake Foundation on a variety of lake-related issues and projects.

Objectives
Over the years, the Long Lake Association has focused on these objectives:
- Preservation of Long Lake as a natural resource and recreation area through protection and prudent use of the environment.
- Guardianship of the health, welfare and safety of the lake's resident community.
- Awareness of the best interests of the membership in fiscal, economic and civil matters such as taxation, zoning, developments affecting property rights and values, pending legislation, law enforcement, etc.
- Serving as a responsible member of the community.
- Pursuing lawful objectives as a nonprofit corporation.
- Reaffirmation of the principle established in 1958: that individual rights should be enjoyed and protected without trespassing on the rights of others.
